The Reluctant Assistant Manager
“I only managed to fool one subordinate into a game of go-stop with our mother. Is that what you call it? It sounds like an insult to me.”
His firm voice warned that you had made a mistake just now. Even so, he couldn’t simply declare that you were wrong. Secrets could always slip out. He didn’t want to bear all of that alone.
Even if your mother and son were at odds now, you weren’t as close to him as he claimed.
“But no matter what, Oh Jin-hee and Yun-woo are both blood-related to the assistant manager. I’m not.”
“If you ever bring that up again until the day you die, I’ll make you pay for it.”
“What?”
“You don’t know? For two years, we can file for divorce as wife and husband, but you’ll be tied to being the mother of Choi Yun-woo until the day you die. That means you must never let your guard down even for a second. Yun-woo is Min Tae-yeon’s son. Until the day he dies.”
Min Tae-yeon had no words. His eyes were so fierce that she couldn’t answer. And he was right. It was written in the contract clause. So the only thing she could say was one single sentence.
“I’m sorry. I’ll fix it from now on.”
“Fix it properly. Otherwise, it’ll be troublesome.”
“Yes. I understand.”
“Go to bed, Manager Min.”
Though he called her Manager Min behind her back, it seemed he was quite satisfied with her promotion. He muttered as he left the room.
“You like that? If I were you, I’d have demanded to be promoted to assistant manager. After all, Assistant Manager is still just an assistant manager.”
The words lingered in Min Tae-yeon’s ears as she sat behind him, smiling. The moment the door closed, she turned over and buried her head under the pillow.
“Tsk! I would have, even as assistant manager. Even if I’m just an assistant manager, it’s still better than being a manager. Choi Assistant Manager. Min Assistant Manager. Both are assistant managers.”
Suppressing the fluttering feeling in her chest, she lay down again. The scene from earlier with Choi Hyun-seo replayed vividly in her mind.
She touched the places his hands had explored. Her breasts, still sensitive. Her body felt raw from the firm grip and twisting he had given her moments ago.
She moved her hand lower, between her legs. The wetness soaking her heart and body was already familiar with his touch. It still waited for the heat of his desire to invade it.
A heartless body indeed.
Why had she pushed him away in vain?
Choi Hyun-seo was skilled in bed.
She felt like she had become a woman who was being shown. All of this was thanks to that Choi Hyun-seo.
As she lay down, a chill ran through her body. It felt like she had a fever after all. She had been tense for so long that it was natural. Every nerve had stiffened, then suddenly melted into a puddle. There was a fever too, and her whole body ached with muscle soreness.
Min Tae-yeon lay there recalling Choi Hyun-seo’s weaknesses.
“He’s so rigid. Cold. A cold-blooded man. Still, he’s handsome. Especially his eyebrows. Thick and sharp. But……”
The moment she thought of him, his swollen, hot desire came to mind. It was really too big. Women liked big ones, didn’t they? Wasn’t this a flaw?
Before she could list more flaws, her mind instantly filled with his hot desire. Thick veins throbbing, the man’s center expanding aggressively.
“Ah… What was I thinking just now……”
She closed her eyes to think of nothing, but the slick feeling between her legs refused to fade. She tossed and turned for a long time, her eyes growing heavy.
The pain in her body lessened a little, as if a bit of fever was ebbing, but sleep still wouldn’t come. She was tossing and turning when a baby’s cry reached her ears.
“Eung-ah, eung-ah.”
“I understand. No, I don’t understand.”
Sometimes the weight of a superior who was impossible to cross came from Choi Hyun-seo. That was why, even when Icheon-daek was there and she could speak casually, she still responded in a superior’s tone when he commanded her.
He carried a glass of water with a whoosh of cold wind and climbed to the second floor. He didn’t seem to have a drop of mercy.
“If he keeps whining until tomorrow, we’ll take him to the hospital. Tonight, just put him to bed like this.”
“Still, since Mrs. Park is hugging him, he stays so still.”
Her footsteps matched the rhythm as she patted the baby held against her chest. After a while, Yun-woo fell completely asleep. She laid him in the baby bed, patted his back, and he seemed to be in a deep sleep.
It was already 1 a.m. Only then did Min Tae-yeon climb to the second floor. Her body weighed heavier than a cotton soaked in water. She lay down in bed, but when she woke the next morning, her fever was raging.
“Aigoo, how could this happen. I wondered why he didn’t come down late.”
It was Icheon-daek’s voice. When she opened her eyes, Icheon-daek was placing a cool towel on her head.
“Yun-woo could have been watched by me yesterday.”
“No. It’s not because of Yun-woo. It seems I had a fever coming from before.”
“When the assistant manager went out, he told me to call if anything happened. I called. Small Mrs. is sick. Her fever is soaring.”
“I’m fine.”
“No. Dr. Jeong is coming right now.”
“Dr. Jeong? I’m fine.”
Receiving medical care from the family doctor at home. This didn’t suit her at all. She wasn’t used to it. A short time later, Dr. Jeong arrived. He said her tonsils were swollen a lot and prescribed medicine, then inserted an IV.
“You seem to have overdone it. It’s not just a normal cold. You look exhausted from overwork. The assistant manager is very worried. He says it’s because of raising the child.”
Overworked. Because of the man who kept grabbing at her body every night.
